I Think I Am Becoming Bulimic?

Question by Anna???: I think I am becoming Bulimic?
I am 4’8, and about 90 pounds. I’m short, I know. I actually love eating, and since I have a very high metabolism due to being half Asian, I can eat loads of junk food without gaining much weight. I have no issues with my body. Sure, I feel like losing a little more weight would make it look better – but I don’t have the energy or will to do anything about it. I’m content, and that’s important.

Recently, I took a job at a University and moved away from my parents for the first time. This is my very first job. I am turning 20 this year. My job involves living with 12 Japanese students in a house on a Japanese University’s abroad American campus. I teach them American culture, and act as a resident assistant. It’s very stressful.

I’ve noticed that whenever I sat down and ate meals with my students, I could not force myself to eat. This is a problem I’ve always had. I don’t eat when people are around, or when I am uncomfortable. I gag when I am uncomfortable.

I’ve also noticed odd purple bruises all over my skin, but I don’t remember ever bumping into any tables or chairs. My skin and hair are very oily recently, and that’s odd as well. I’ve been getting migraines on and off.

Then I noticed that I spent several days without eating. I realized that I never feel hungry, and cannot force myself to eat anymore. Finally, at this point, whenever I think about food – I feel very emotional. I tear up, and I often throw up. Whenever I get around to eating a small meal, I throw up several minutes later. And at this point, I literally have nothing in my stomach … so I am throwing up clear thick goopy saliva. (Sorry for the details…)

I have been stressing out a lot, which I strongly believe is part of the reason. I have to take care of my students, make sure that they all like me, plan four lessons a week as well as their outings,… blah blah blah. My students don’t have good English, but they frequently want me to be around. They are very high maintenance. I never have any breaks. There is too much excitement, and before this job – I would always always take a day to myself (break) after something exciting happens. This pressure is very new to me. It is also taking a tole on my grades in MY university classes. All these things are things that I can’t talk to anyone about, and it’s really screwing me up.

What can I do? Am I really becoming Bulimic or is this just a form of stress?
