Avoiding Alcohol/drug Abuse…?
Question by luciella: Avoiding alcohol/drug abuse…?
Hi, I’m a teenager, recently moved from my parents’ to my brother’s house because it’s closer to my new school. Heavy drug culture over here, i’m already getting a little involved in it, but i’d like to maintain a balance between fun and school. Any suggestions/anyone else been in the same kind of situation?
Also, does anyone know the minors’ rights regarding what you tell a therapist about illegal activities in the US?

Luciella – There is a law here that covers patient/therapist confidentiality and nothing you tell a therapist can be repeated unless you are a danger to your self or others.
Having said this, please understand, the drug scene always gets worse before it ever gets better and then only with a great deal of work and suffering. Stay out of it, even if it means changing your school plans.

Hi, luci!
I think if you tell a therapist something that endangers you, or something illegal, they have to blow the whistle. I’m not positive.
Just don’t drink or use recreational drugs. There’s a big difference between a group of 4-5 friends sharing a glass of wine at a restaurant and a dorm party where beer is free-flowing.
